Discussion:
1. The meeting was held at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 1, at Proffitt’s Porch in Columbus. President, Dave Peebles, opened
the meeting. There were 15 in attendance including visitors. Everyone introduced themselves and identified
their favorite type of race or activity.
2. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., October 6, at La Tarraza in Starkville. There will be a guest speaker
from Magnolia Rehab to discuss treating injuries and recovering from workouts.
3. Don Zant discussed some changes to the Grand Prix schedule. The Johnny Cash 5k has been cancelled this
year. After a vote, it was decided to replace this race with two races. The Freaky Friday 10k in Coker, AL on
the night of 10/30, a Friday, and the Vardaman Sweet Potato 5k on November 7 (this is the same day as the
Long Leaf Trace).
The date for the Run for Education has been changed to October 31 due to a scheduling conflict with MSU
football.
4. Mark Crigler announced a planned 50 mile group ride tentatively scheduled for Sept 19. The ride will begin
at Lake Lowndes go through Steens and end back at Lake Lowndes. Due to the nature of the ride, participants
will be able to travel at their own pace. Mark stated he would like to have at least six cyclers. Please contact
Mark Crigler to sign up or to let him know if another weekend would be better.
5. The Turkey Trot will be held November 21 on or near the Riverwalk. When runners register, they will be
asked to estimate the time it will take them to finish the race. The distance will be determined closer to the date
of the race and announced the morning of the race. Awards will be given for places in the respective age groups,
as well as to those who guess closest to their actual finishing time.
6. Several changes have occurred in the operations of the running club. Rhonda Jackson is now publishing the
newsletter and Cyrena Shows has taken over webmaster duties. The club now has a page on Facebook courtesy
of Don Zant. To access the Facebook page, search for Golden Triangle Running and Cycling Club on Facebook or
click on the link on the running club website. Thank you to those who have stepped up to fill these positions and
to those who did these jobs previously.
The positions of President and Grand Prix Director will be vacated at the end of this year. Those interested in
filling these positions should let one of the officers know. Nominees for the officer positions will be announced at
the November meeting and confirmed at the December meeting.
7. OK Bryant reported that Plymouth Bluff has updated their trails.
8. Judy Coleman stated that Outdoors without Limits will be hosting a banquet Thursday, September 3 at the
American Legion Hut. Several items will be auctioned off. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children (all
children will receive a goodie bag) and are available for purchase from Judy. Proceeds will go benefit the
disabled.
9. The December meeting will be the club’s annual Christmas Party. It will be held at 6:30 p.m., Dec 1, at Lake
Lowndes. The club will provide the meat, and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and a drink.
The Grand Prix results will be announced at the meeting.
