Golden Triangle Running
& Cycling Club Minutes
February 2008
The
February meeting was held at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 5, 2008, at Tampico
Bay in Columbus.
Present: Dave Peebles, Tom Kennedy, O.K. Bryant,
Tallulah Bryant, Peter Rabideau, Jennifer Rabideau, Judy Coleman, Betty Gill,
and Emily Meadows (visitor)
Discussion:
President,
Dave Peebles welcomed Emily Meadows, and members introduced themselves. Dave distributed the new GTRCC pamphlets for
members to review. After a few minor changes, 200 copies will be printed for
distribution. It was noted that
membership is down and several members have not renewed. Anyone who has not renewed is encouraged to
do so as soon as possible.
2. The Johnny Cash race was discussed and a race
director is still being sought. Jennifer
and Peter Rabideau expressed an interest in possibly co-directing or assisting
and Dave is still finding out more details as far as the club’s participation
and whether trophies and t-shirts will be provided. It was decided to keep both the Vardaman Sweet Potato Festival and the Johnny Cash races on
the Grand Prix calendar for now. There will be some minor changes to the Grand
Prix schedule as dates are firmed up but the current schedule will be used for
the pamphlets so they can be distributed.
Members will be notified of any changes as they come up and updates will
also be on the website.
3. O.K. Bryant, Grand Prix/Race chairman,
encouraged members to go out for the BLAZE 5K/10K race to be held Feb 23 at
Columbus AFB. The race is expected to
have good participation and the club will help with time clocks for the race.
The 10K BLAZE race has been added to the Grand Prix calendar.
4.
Dave said Lisa Landrum has agreed to coordinate the long bike ride again this
year and would appreciate any help. The ride will be in May but a definite time
has not been set. Mark Crigler has agreed to be the Group Ride Chair again.
5. Judy Coleman discussed the Lake Lowndes 5K
coming up March 15. The race starts at
8:00 a.m. and the entry fee is $15 if you pre-register, $18 on race day. The registration form will be put in the next
newsletter. She asked if anyone had any suggestions for sponsors for the
race. O.K. has begun working to try to
get sponsors for the 10K Pilgrimage run also.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for sponsors, please let them
know. O.K. noted that the Columbus
Police Department has been very cooperative and will provide support again this
year for the 10K.
6.
Dave said that the GTRCC has been recognized as a long time member of the
Mississippi Roadrunners Association. The
meeting adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Pepper’s in
Starkville.
