Golden Triangle Running and Cycling Club Minutes for May 2011

The meeting was held at La Fiesta in Columbus on May 3, 2011 at 6:30 p.m.

Present:
Johnny Peters, Mary Ann Briggs, Judy Coleman, Carole and Ralph Stewart, Jennifer and Peter Rabideau, Bob Coggins, Bonnie
Partridge, Ann Mellott, Tom Kennedy, and Betty Gill

Discussion:
1.  Johnny opened the meeting and turned it over to Bob Coggins, race director for Market Street, who gave an update on the
race scheduled for May 7.  Everything is progressing well and he has volunteers lined up to help.  The starting line this year has
been moved to the road near Ruben’s to accommodate more runners without crowding.  Registration and the finish line will be
at the pavilion at the beginning of the Riverwalk as in the past.
2. Judy Coleman gave an update on the duathlon scheduled for August 20 near the Lock & Dam.  She is working on flyers for
the race and will have them ready at Market Street.
3.  Jennifer reported that she had renewed the insurance for the club and that we’ll need a special one-time policy for the
duathlon.  Members agreed to get insurance for the duathlon and to pursue getting liability insurance for the officers.
4.  Jennifer also discussed the newsletter and several options were considered, including sending postcards in June instead of
the full newsletter and combining summer months or sending e-mail to members instead of a printed newsletter.   Suggestions
welcome.
5.  Mary Ann discussed the club picnic which will be held Saturday, July 9 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus Lock
and Dam. She has reserved a pavilion and the club will furnish barbeque with members bring side dishes.  More info will be
posted on the website.
6.  In closing, Johnny mentioned that he had received a request for the club’s help in building and/or maintaining a bike trail
from the end of the current riverwalk to the Lock and Dam.  Johnny had agreed to pass on the information if anyone was
interested and the topic was left open for later discussion by members.
7.  The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m.
